Somaliland has announced that it will resettle up to 87,000 internally displaced people (IDPs) from camps where they have been living for more than 15 years.
Somaliland’s Minister of Resettlement, Saleebaan Duale Haaji Jama, told the BBC that the global crisis and the uncertainty of aid agencies have led to the acceleration of the resettlement plan, so that they can return to their former normal pastoralist lifestyle.
The IDPs who are being resettled are living in and around the outskirts of Somaliland’s major cities and some districts.
