The Somaliland government has fully nationalized two batches of the SSB clan forces and another batch of the G36 clan forces.
A delegation led by the Vice President of Somaliland, Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi, who is in Erigavo to carry out nationalization and stabilization activities, said that the nationalization of the clan forces is progressing well.
“This is the second day of responding to the nationalization of the civilian forces, and the rest are following suit, and we expect that tomorrow and the coming days, the rest will be finished,” said the Vice President.
The government is gradually taking over vehicles, weapons, and all the troops held by the clans in the eastern regions of Somaliland, taking over different forces for three consecutive days.
Meanwhile, the government said that once the nationalization process is complete, it will provide a peaceful environment for the clans living in the city, some of whom fled after conflicts in the city.
The government recently called for the return of at least 45,000 families who had previously fled to the city. However, some of the displaced clans’ intellectuals said they could not return to the city as long as clan forces were present.
The nationalization move is seen as a move to strengthen community trust, while eliminating the civilian population who carried guns.
