The Vice President of Somaliland H.E Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi who is accompanied by ministers, other officials of the government dubbed “Togetherness and Action” and members of Somaliland parliament on Sunday held a ceremony in El-Afwein where the government officially nationalized the clan militias and their combat vehicles.

The VP lauded El-Afwein community for the role they played when it comes to nationalizing the clan militias.

He also commended the community for openly working with the administration headed by President H.E Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi Irro.

He also said that the nationalization of clan militias in El-Afwein is quite different from the previous clan militias that were absorbed and integrated into the national armed forces.

He said: “This nationalization of clan militias in El-Afwein is quite different from those clan militias that were nationalized previously. Today we are handing over clan militias and their combat vehicles. The clan militias were established due to lack of shrewd judgment of El-Afwein community. It was a weapon intended to kill in-laws, uncles and cousins.”

He reiterated that the government dubbed “Togetherness and Action” is committed to the pacification of El-Afwein.

He said: “The peace in El-Afwein whatever it takes, we will not leave until peace is achieved in El-Afwein.”
