Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi (Irro) of Waddani opposition party in Somaliland has secured the endorsement of Habar Jeclo (Isaaq sub-clan).
This constituency’s support means Irro’s election is guaranteed.
This latest endorsement comes after waves of endorsement from various political figures and groups who have put their backing behind Irro.
The presidential elections scheduled to take place on 13 November 2024 will be a contest between the sitting president Muse Bihi Abdi, whose support has dwindled in the last couple of years, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi of Waddani party and Faisal Ali Warabe.
Irro also got the backing of the major political associations in the country and has been waving the banner of change, promising a better Somaliland based on inclusivity and justice.
Irro’s track record as a politician who consults with people contrasts with President Bihi’s authoritarian rule and unpredictable decisions.
Somaliland is struggling with skyrocketing unemployment, increasing poverty, insecurity and geopolitical crisis. The leadership of Abdirahman Irro, a former diplomat and speaker of the parliament, is expected to calm things down and give the economy the stability it needs to revive.
