The new British has reiterrated the importance of need for Somaliland to organise and hold the long overdue presidential elections.
Ambassador to Somalia, Amb. Mike Nithavrianakis, and President of Somaliland Muse Bihi Abdi at a meeting in Hargeisa also discussed the conflict in Laascaanood.
“The meeting discussed finding a peaceful solution to the conflict in Laascaanood, and the President shared with the Ambassador that the government always seeks peaceful resolutions and considers peace a priority,” stated a press release issued after the meeting.
In a tweet, the British ambassadour said: ” Ambassador @MikeNith1 visited Somaliland for the first time. He met with Somaliland President @musebiihi & discussed UK’s humanitarian & development support to Somaliland, the importance of an agreed electoral roadmap & the pressing need to end violence in Las Anod.
At the meeting, the Ambassador stated that efforts must be made to ensure a transparent electoral process with the President assuring him of the commitment to a fair electoral process, including voter registration and participation,” the press release added.
The two also discussed the UK’s support for development projects in Somaliland, particularly the Berbera Port and the Berbera Corridor.
