Jigjiga, a vessel of the Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics Services Enterprise (ESLSE), docked at Berbera port with 758 Somaliland’s containerized cargos setting a new record on containerized cargo shipment to the port.
ESLSE’s vessels started regular scheduled liner service to Berbera in July last year after 20 years. Gibe, another vessel owned by the Enterprise, docked at the coast of Somaliland for the first time in two decades carrying 15,000 tons of rice. Currently, ESLSE’s vessels transport up to 11,200 metric tons of bulk cargo in a single trip.
The Enterprise was created in 2011 as a result of a merger between three public enterprises named Ethiopian Shipping Lines Share Company, Ethiopian Maritime and Transit Enterprise, and Dry Port Enterprise. It currently has 11 vessels and managed to increase its containers from 3000 to 14000 in the 2021/2022 fiscal year.
