Somaliland police has been put on the spot for human rights abuses on prisoners.
A former senior police officer who recently resigned from the force accuses his colleague of brutally assaulting prisoners especially those held for political reasons.
While Somaliland police denied an allegations of abuse, Yahye Samaysne, a former police district deputy commander said he had been forced to quit the police force because he could not stand watching as his colleague meted brutality on prisoners. Samaysne was the deputy commander of the Central Station in Hargeysa
The Police described the accusation as an attempt to damage the reputation of the police force, and warned anyone who is focused on tarnishing the police force.
“The Somaliland Police Force, is denying the news on the social media, that the Police Force is said to abuse and trouble detainees at the police stations”.
The officer said he resigned from the police force due to witnessing police committing human rights abuses against prisoners.
