Police in Somaliland have arrested a restaurant owner over his association with opposition politicians.
Reports from Hargeisa indicate that Ahmed-Sayid a co-owner of Sima Tea shop was picked by suspected police officers moments after his restaurant had hosted Waddani party presidential candidate Abdirahman Irro.
The opposition presidential candidate was in the company of several other pro opposition politicians at the restaurant.
“Ahmed-Sayid, co-owner of Sima Teashop where I, WADDANI chairman and other opposition leaders had drunk tea while he was absent , has been arrested by Bihi govt. Arresting a businessman because opposition leaders have had tea in his business is insane and completely unacceptable,” Abdirahman tweeted.
Abdirahman has been leading the push to have the President Muse Bihi led government to adgere to the presidential election calendar and hold polls by the end of the year.
Together with the UCID party, Waddani has announced a series of public demonstrations to pressure the government to give in.
The government has on the other hand threated to crash any demonstrations organized by the opposition.
