Somaliland president Abdirahman Maxamed Abdilahi (Cirro) has said his government is committed to a long-term cooperation with the International Organisation for Migration aimed at developing stability, humanitarian care and sustainable development in the country.

At a meeting with IOM Chief of Mission in Somalia, Manuel Marques Pereira the Somaliland president said his government will work in coordination with IOM in managing immigration flights and protecting the vulnerable.

They also agreed on the coordination of support for displaced people and communities affected by natural disasters and conflicts, fighting against human trafficking and ensuring safety of individuals at risk and also benefiting and developing the knowledge and experience of the diaspora community.

Pereira who was meeting President Irro for the first time since last November’s elections congratulated Irro and the people of Somaliland for holding a peaceful campaign and elections.

The president said that his government  is ready to work closely and effectively with international organisations  that are handling issues that are important to Somaliland.
