The president of the Republic of Somaliland Mr. Abdiramxaan Mohamed Abdilahi (Cirro) has said the forthcoming parliamentary elections will be held at the appointed time.
At a meeting alongside Mohamed Aw Ali Abdi the president met with the National Electoral Commission officials who he assured oof his support. This was the first time the president was meeting the Electoral Commission since his election last November.
The parliamentary elections are set for May 31, 2026.
The commission told the president that they have completed an in-depth study related to the review of the past elections (Post Election Review) and looked into the past loopholes.
The commission also presented to the president the budget required to hold a credible election.
The president congratulated the commission for managing and holding a credible presidential election last November.
“I take pride in how you conducted the elections, you exhibited hard work, responsibility, patience and perseverance in managing the elections last year,” the president said.
The president told the National Electoral Commission (KDQ) to review and study the errors and obstacles that occurred in the past election, how to get rid of and correct the obstacles.
The president said he will fulfil the promise he made to the people to ensure there is no delay in future elections.
He also promised to have a review in the election process and enact reforms where necessary
President Irro ordered electoral commission to prepare a road map for the elections of the House of Representatives and the district ahead of the polls slated for May next year.
