President of the Republic of Somaliland Mr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilaahi (Cirro) today held a meeting with representatives of from the International Commitee for the Red Cross at the presidency in Hargeisa.
Also present at the meeting were the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of the Presidential Politics, Consultant of Foreign affairs, Speaker and Secretary of the President and members of the Somaliland Red Cross.
The ICRC delegation was led by Mr. Antoine Grand, the head of ICRC Somaliland/Somalia, the head of the ICRC office of Somaliland, Mr. Jimcaale Cali Nuur and Mr. Ahmed Abdi Bakal who is the executive director of the Red Moon Association (SRCS) part of Somaliland.
The president of the Republic of Somaliland thanked the delegation from the Red Cross and the Red Moon Association for their visit and congratulated them for the good humanitarian work that these organizations are doing in Somaliland.
The president admitted the important role that these agencies play in responding to human needs especially those in health, prisons, disability department and restoring ties with families.
Irro confirmed the commitment of his government and the importance of the peace and stability of the region, saying that the efforts of peace, stability and reconciliation and the people of Somaliland are the first priority of the government togetherness and the work it is the patriotism.
Mr. Antoine Grand, the head of ICRC Somaliland/Somalia congratulated the president for the victory of the presidential elections while praising Somaliland for the democratic process of Somaliland.
He gave a general report to the president of JSL about the history and the activities of the ICRC in Somaliland. He especially expressed the support that this organization gives to Somaliland especially the prisons and health and medicines.
Mr. Grand also expressed the support that the ICRC gives to the Red Moon Association of Somaliland in important areas such as the disability section (PRP), health and restoration of ties with families separated by conflicts.
Mr. Antoine Grand thanked the Somaliland government for working with his organization on humanitarian activities going on in Somaliland.
The executive director of SRCS in Somaliland, Mr. Ahmed Abdi Bakal, gave deep information on the activities of the Red Moon Organization in all six regions of Somaliland.
He also stated the strong cooperation with ICRC (International Red Cross Association) and Red Moon Organization, as well as the support they received from the Red Cross in England, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany and Norway.
The meeting was a result of understanding and strengthening the cooperation between ICRC, SRCS and the government of Somaliland to address the current humanitarian needs.
