Somaliland President Abdirahman Maxamed Abdilahi (Cirro) is asking the Finnish government to assist in resolving the conflicts in the Horn of Africa region.
President Cirro while meeting a delegation from the Finland government also requested for assistance in solving the crisis in the Ceerigaabo district and eastern Sool region.
There was also representation from the Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland for East Africa and South African countries led by Mr. Jukka Pajerinen.
President Irro told the Finland delegation that Somaliland has been stable for 34 years since declaring its independence from Somalia.
But he also added that Somaliland is ready to work with its foreign partners like Finland to ensure peace and stability in the Horn of Africa especially in Ceerigaabo district and eastern Sool region.
He said Somaliland is a country known for peace, stability, democracy, rule of law and the protection of human rights.
“Somaliland is ready to work with the international community in many areas, especially cooperation on security and stability of the Horn of Africa.”
The president requested Finland delegation to support Somaliland in the quality and reforming services necessary for the needs of the JSL community, such as health services, higher education and modernizing the tax system, since Finland is the leading country in the world for these services.
Mr. Suldaan Said Ahmed, Finland’s Special Envoy on Peace Mediation in the Horn of Africa who was part of the delegation praised Somaliland for the elections in 2024, the civilized democracy and stability.
He congratulated the president for the recent establishment of the peace committee, saying it was vital in the promotion of peace in the country.
The delegation said that Finland is ready to work with Somaliland towards peace and neutralizing the works in the eastern Sool and Eerigaabo region.Also, the Finland peace envoy said that his country is ready to work with Somaliland on issues of development, good governance, quality of health services, education, justice services and prisons.
