The Somaliland Electoral Commission has officially sworn in the Ethics, Conflict Resolution, and Election Monitoring Committees, a significant step in the preparations for the highly anticipated elections scheduled for November 13, 2024.
Musa Hassan Yusuf, Chairman of the Electoral Commission, addressed the swearing-in ceremony and assured attendees that the elections will proceed as planned and on schedule.
Three major political parties will compete in the upcoming elections: Kulmiye, the ruling party, represented by incumbent President Muse Bihi Abdi; Waddani, the opposition party, with Abdirahman Cirro as its candidate; and UCID, whose candidate is Faisal Ali Warabe.
In addition to these three established parties, voters will also decide the fate of seven political organizations vying to become official parties.
The final three, based on majority vote, will be granted official party status for the next 10 years.
