Hargeisa Mayor Abdikarim Ahmed Mooge has offered to set up a campaign center for the Waddani party in the Somaliland capital as the official campaign period for the country’s presidential elections nears.
As he welcomed a huge crowd of Waddani supporters into Hargeisa, Mooge said winning more support in the country’s capital will be a rubber stamp to the popularity of the party’s presidential candidate Abdirahman Irro in the country.
“As a presidential candidate, it is vital that Dr Irro gets massive votes in the capital city of Hargeisa. If we lead in as the capital city in supporting Waddani and Irro, the rest of the country will follow suit,” said Mooge, a key member of the opposition party.
“Therefore, I offer to set up a string campaign center for the party and its candidate in Hargeisa,” he added.
The campaign center he said will have representation from the youth, women and other leaders from the city. In the previous elections, the ruling Kulmiye party enjoyed a slight edge over Waddani.
Mooge said this on the day Wadani Party delegation’s long journey, which began in Boorama in the west of Somaliland and traveled to the eastern regions of Sanaag and Sool, was met with large crowds outside Hargeisa, all showing support for the party and its candidate, Abdirahman Mahmed Abdillahi Irro.
In its campaign, train, the Habarjeclo community, one of the most influential in Somaliland, announced their support for Abdirahman Irro’s candidacy.
