The Vice President of Somaliland Abdirahman Saylici has acknowledged on his platform that the country has not achieved any significant progress in the past 30 years, despite global advancements during this period.
His statement, coming from the nation’s second highest official and a member of the ruling party, Kulmiye, highlights the challenges they faced in effectively implementing policies and delivering noticeable improvements over the 14 years they have been in power.
This admission suggests that it may be time for new leadership to step in and drive the needed change, as even some of the party’s leaders, including Sayili, have expressed dissatisfaction with how things have been managed for an extended period.
The ruling party is facing strong opposition ahead of the Presidential elections on November 13 with WADDANI party making inroads in hitherto Kulmiye strongholds.
There is general apathy in the country with its citizenry decrying the poverty levels.
