The governments of the Republic of Somaliland and the Federal Government of Ethiopia, have agreed to stabilize the price of qat and vegetables, following a recent increase in prices by Ethiopian farmers.
A delegation led by Ethiopian Minister of Transport and Logistics Dagmawit Moges and National Security Adviser to the Prime Minister of Ethiopia Redwan Hussien visited Somaliland recently for trade talks.
The agreement was signed in Hargeisa on by Redwan Hussien on behalf of the Ethiopian government while Somaliland was represented by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Dr. Issa Kayd Mohamud.
Dr. Issa Kayd said Somaliland and Ethiopia recognize the importance of the long-standing relationship between the two sides.
He said the price of khat and vegetables will be restored as before.
A technical committee will also be established to prevent such problems and conduct a study to find solutions to such issues.
The two sides agreed to continue the agreements to finalize trade, cross-border merchandise, and the Berbera port issue based on previous agreements.
Somaliland khat traders had on June 26th threatened to stop importing Ethiopia khat and instead bring from Yemen and Kenya, after Ethiopia increased the price of the commodity.
