The Minister of Internal Affairs and Security Abdalle Mohamed Arab, on Thursday held a consultative and informative meeting in his  office with the visiting top leadership of the European Union Capacity Building (EUCAP) Mission, led by the Head of Operations and Training of the European Union, Kestutis Lancinskas. Also in attendance were representatives of the EUCAP office in Hargeisa.

The meeting focused on the cooperation between the two sides, particularly on security matters.

The senior leadership of EUCAP commended the Minister for the significant progress Somaliland has made in maritime affairs and maritime security.

The Minister emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration between the two sides, noting that this cooperation will lead to a strong relationship and further development.

EUCAP has a field office in Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland, and works with Somaliland authorities on maritime security and related issues. It supports workshops and training on police-prosecutor cooperation, particularly in areas like trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants.

EUCAP works with the Solicitor General’s office in Somaliland to provide a legal basis for the maritime sector, including advice on maritime legislation and provides support to the Somaliland Coast Guard, including training and embedding advisors in the Coast Guard headquarters.
In Project Management EUCAP enhances the project management capabilities of Somaliland partners, enabling them to better implement projects and cooperate with EUCAP.
On the other hand EUCAP’s efforts in Somaliland aim to build the capacity of local institutions and personnel in areas such as maritime security, law enforcement, and the rule of law
