Somaliland’s House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved 19 ministers from President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro’s new administration during the ninth session of its 10th sitting on Monday.

Key cabinet members approved, including Minister of Information Ahmed Yasiin Sheikh Ali Ayaanle (65 votes), Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdirahman Dahir Aden (59 votes), and Minister of Defense Mohamed Yusuf Ali Ikacase (62 votes).

Other notable confirmations included Khadar Hussein Abdi as Minister of the Presidency (65 votes), Hassan Ahmed Duale (Maclin) as Minister of Local Government and Urban Development (64 votes), and Kaltuun Sheikh Hassan Abdi Madar as Minister of Planning (65 votes).

Ministers receiving unanimous or near-unanimous support included Ahmed Mohamed Farah Coofle (Youth and Sports), Jamaal Mohamed Jama (Communications and Technology), and Osman Ibrahim (Af-grab), minister of Transport, each receiving 65 votes.

The Minister of Investment, Said Mohamed Buraale ( 63 votes); the Minister of Environment, Abdullahi Osman Jama, received (64 votes), the Minister of Finance, Abdilaahi Hassan Adan Awaale received (65 votes), the Minister of Commerce, Abdirahman Hassan Nuux Furre received (65 votes), the Minister of Religion, Abdilaahi Dahir Jama received (65 votes), the Minister of Public Works, Hussein Ahmed Aydiid received (63 votes), and the Minister of Security, Abdale Mohamed Arab also received (65 votes).

Also, the Minister of Education, Ismail Yusuf Duale, the Minister of Health Development, Dr. Hussein Bashir Hirsi, and the Minister of Social Affairs and Family, Mr. Milgo Mohamed Elmi, received 65 votes each.

The approvals follow President Irro’s announcement on December 14 of a 48-member cabinet, comprising 28 ministers, 16 deputy ministers, and four state ministers. However, no explanation was provided as to why only 19 nominees were presented for parliamentary approval.

President Irro, the former opposition leader elected in November 2024, was inaugurated as Somaliland’s sixth president, succeeding Muse Bihi Abdi.
