Somaliland president elect Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi has termed his predecessor Muse Bihi as the hero in the just concluded presidential elections for his acknowledging the results and graciously accepting defeat.
Abdullahi Irro was declared winner in the elections by garnering 63.9 percent of the votes cast with Bihi coming a distant second with 34.8 percent of the votes. Boho had been president for seven years.
In a statement, Irro and the Waddani party leadership extended its gratitude to Bihi and the ousted Kulmiye party noting that its willingness to hand over power peacefully signified maturity of the country’s democracy.
”(Outgoing) president Bihi is the victor having adeptly carried out his extensive electoral responsibilities and upheld his constitutional duties with remarkable efficiency and integrity,’ said Irro.
Kulmiye party had urged its supporters to graciously accept defeat and congratulate Irro and Waddani following their victory in the elections held on November 13.
