The speaker of the Somaliland House of Elders (Guurti) Suleiman Mohamud Adam has called for calm as the country heads into the presidential elections on November 13.
Adam, speaking to the media reaffirmed his neutrality in the electioneering process and appealed to the public to be ready to support and work with the president who will be elected.
He said unity remains key to Somaliland’s future and congratulated the parties for conducting peaceful campaigns.
It is the House of Elders that in January successfully approved a significant election law, endorsing the integration of presidential and political party elections. This in effect paved the way for the upcoming November 13 elections after a previous standoff that saw the opposition parties stage demonstrations demanding for a road map to the elections.
