The presidential candidate of the Waddani Party in Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi Irro, has stated that he will continue the agreement between Somaliland and Ethiopia and will resolve the conflict in the Sool region through dialogue.
In an exclusive interview with BBC Somali, Irro mentioned that he will engage in dialogue regarding the ongoing conflict in the Sool region, emphasizing that the people of Somaliland and Las Anod are brothers and any disputes between them should be resolved through dialogue.
When asked about his position on the Somaliland-Ethiopia agreement, Irro stated that his party has not seen the agreement and suggested that it should be presented to the parliament. He added that if he becomes president, he will look into the terms of the agreement and in consultation with his government work on its implementation.
“We have stated that anything beneficial for Somaliland we support. The government can enter into agreements, but our laws require that any agreement made by the government be brought to parliament. We will continue with any agreement Somaliland is involved in if it is good for the country,” he said.
Irro also mentioned that if he wins, he will build Somaliland and establish agreements with the world. He highlighted his long career as a diplomat and his intention to strengthen Somaliland’s relations with key countries such as Ethiopia, Kenya, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
He further stated that he has signed with the electoral commission to accept any decision they make regarding the election. Therefore, if he loses, he will accept the outcome and will not run for office again.
