The central council of Waddani party has voted for Murrashax Abdirahman Irro to be the presidential candidate of the party in the November 13 elections.
Irro will now face the Kulmiye candidate and current Somaliland president Muse Bihi in the elections.
At the party convention in the capital Hargeisa, 406 members out of the 408 in attendance voted for Irro as the party’s flagbearer.
Irro accepted his candidature and promised to turn around the fortunes of Somaliland by initiating development and working closely with both the nation’s citizens and the neighbouring countries.
“I promise to ensure that Somaliland earns its respectul place in the world,” Irro stated.
Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi will be Dr Irro’s running mate in the elections after being endorsed by 405 members.
The central council of the party also approved the political program of Waddani party in the run up to the elections.
The party also agreed to increase the number of members of the central parliament to 479 members from 429 members.
The party further approved Mohamed Abdilahi Omar, Hussein Ahmed Caydiid and Abdirashid Mohamed who joined the party appointed as deputy chairman. 398 members accepted, 8 members rejected and 4 members abstained.
