Prime Cabinet Secretary and CS Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi has said that the government is still pursuing all possible avenues to have a Kenyan, Joshua Amenya, who is detained in Somaliland released.

Speaking when he appeared before the Senate plenary on Wednesday, Mudavadi said that after meeting the family, together with Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni and former Chief Justice David Maraga, he followed up on the matter with Somaliland representatives in Nairobi.

The Prime CS said the officials promised to reach out to their country and bring forth feedback, but to date that has not happened.

“After the conversation we had, I did call representatives of the Somaliland and we held talks regarding the unfair treatment and incarceration of Amenya and they then said they would be going back to their headquarters and come back with an updated position.

“Unfortunately to this date, they have not come back with a comprehensive response as to why they continue to hold this gentleman,” Mudavadi said.

He assured the Senate that he is closely following the matter to ensure they get a response as soon as possible.

The CS noted that from the government’s point of view, Amenya is being held unreasonably.

“We have not stopped pursuing the agenda. I continue to push it personally so that we can have a response and hopefully facilitate the release of Joshua Amenya because the circumstances under which he is being held from where we sit are unreasonable.”

The reason for Amenya’s detention remains unknown.
