Somaliland Presidential elections scheduled to be held in November 13 appear to be headed for a brick wall after talks between President Muse Bihi and leaders of opposition parties to set an inclusively agreed roadmap ended in a deadlock.
Sources within the meeting say the opposition leaders led by the two opposition parties, WADDANI and UCID including the two presidential candidates and other top leaders walked out from the presidential palace where the meeting was going on.
Opposition parties accused the president saying he is not genuinely committed to upholding his statements which he repeatedly declared earlier.
Specifically, they mentioned that president is not ready to stop interfering independent National Election Commission (NEC).
According to earlier reports, the president has appointed committee consisting of former ruling party affiliates to investigate and assess NEC performance, an action that was seen as provocation that interrupts NEC work, specifically the Voter Registration which was scheduled to start at 21st May. High tension is reported in Hargeisa.
