Former Dahabshiil executive tipped to be next Somali Deputy Prime Minister

Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre is reportedly expected to appoint the former managing director of Dahabshiil Group’s operations in South and Central Somalia, Hassan Abdi Awad, as the next Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia.

Awad resigned from his senior position with the remittance company this week and was replaced by  Omar Hassan Yoola, according to a statement from Dahabshiil Group.

Sources close to Villa Somalia say that the outgoing deputy prime minister Mahdi Mohamed Guled Khadar was actively lobbying to retain his position but that he likely will not be successful.

The Prime Minister’s office is expected to announce the cabinet by next week.
