Somaliland has strongly condemned the recognition given by the Federal Government of Somalia to the SSC-Khaatumo administration, which is based in the city of Las Anod.
The move has been characterized by SL as a threat to it’s sovereignty. In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Federal Government’s recognition of SSC-Khatumo has been described as an act of aggression.
The statement asserts that Somaliland has maintained its sovereignty for over 32 years, during which it has successfully established peace, security, and democratic governance within its borders.
The statement indicated that Somalia’s actions was a potential threat to Somaliland stability.
The Somaliland government has called on Somalia to immediately withdraw its support for what it called an armed militia and has also appealed to the international community to reconsider the recognition, given the risk it poses to regional stability.
On Thursday, the Federal Government of Somalia said that it will work closely with the Interim Administration of SSC-Khatumo, based in the city of Las Anod in the Sool region, adding the government supports the decision made by the traditional leaders from those areas.
The Minister of Interior and Federal Affairs of Somalia, Ahmed Moalin Fiqi, announced that the government of Somalia welcomes and will work closely with the interim administration of SSC-Khatumo.
The minister also mentioned that the central government will help with providing services such as education, healthcare, and water supply and addressing general humanitarian concerns and contribute to the peaceful coexistence of the local population.
