Waddani Party Presidential candidate Abdirahman Irro has called for an immediate end to the fighting in Gaanlibah Mountain.
Irro spoke in Borama where he sent his condolences to all those who died in the skirmishes and wished the injured a speedy recovery at the same time calling for peace and to end everything through dialogue.
He said that he was not aspiring to presidency through the barrel of the gun but by peaceful means hence called on the laying down of arms.
He appealed to the members of the intellectuals, traditional leaders and the clergy not to assume volatile situation going on but should indulge themselves in the ways and means of curtailing the chaos.
Abdirahman Irro’s statement comes at a time when the rebels holed up at Ga’an-Libah mountains clashed on Friday resulting in deaths and injuries.
Meanwhile, outgoing president Muse Bihi said the incident where 9 police officers were killed in a recent battle that took place in the suburb of Go’da yar near Hargeisa left the nation mourning the loss and emphasized that the country will not tolerate anyone who unlawfully targets security forces.
The conflict between the Gacan-Libaax militia and government forces escalated this week further, resulting in significant casualties. The militia is seen as a challenge to President Bihi’s leadership and the delayed presidential elections.
The President, speaking after the funeral of the slain policemen, acknowledged that Somaliland faces numerous challenges and significant threats.
The president did not propose solutions to the conflict, but rather fan the flames of further conflict with the Garhajis fighters, now in multiple regions in Somaliland.
He also ignored efforts by traditional leaders to mediate between his government and the rebels.
Since assuming office, President Muse Bihi Abdi has been the center of internal conflicts and political turbulence that have shaken the stability of the country.
