Muse Bihi Abdi, President of Somaliland, said that his government is committed to finding a solution to the week-long anti-government protests in Las Anod, the capital of the Sool region, but also cautioned the Somali government and Puntland administration not to aggravate the situation.

The president, speaking after a meeting to assess the situation in Lasaanood, stated that Somaliland has adequate resources to handle the matter, while also extending his sympathies to all impacted by the crisis.

“We spoke about problems in Lasa Anod and how to fix them. We agreed that Somaliland has enough resources to resolve this issue… We deeply regret the actions last week and express our sympathies to all those who died in Las Anod, which was sudden and unexpected, “President Bihi stated.

The President of the Republic of Somaliland together with the Speaker of the Senate addressed the issue of Las Anod.

Bihi spoke after chairing a meeting attended by all stakeholders including Cabinet Ministers, Speaker of the Senate and the chairman of the Senate.

He explained the plan that leaders intended to address the issue of Las reiterated that all citizens in LasCaanod are allowed to work and live in peace.

President Muse Bihi said that the killings started since 2009 and the government has been strongly involved in identifying and arresting the murderous agents.

He accused politicians from neighbouring countries are the ones fueling the crisis in LasCaanod. He specifically pointed out a Kenya Politician, Farah Maalim as one of those who is pushing for the conflict.

He also explained Puntland’s leaders recently declared war against the Somaliland Republic.

The President said Somaliland stands together regardless of our political difference in this crisis adding that the country wants to find internal solution on the crisis.

He requested the governments of Kenya and Ethiopia to warn the politicians in their country who are inciting the conflict.
