The Somaliland House of Representatives has taken issue with the Internal Affairs minister for refusing to answer to summons to appear before the Internal Affairs Committee.
The Internal Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives the Internal Minister Mohamed Kahin Ahmed had shown the house disrespect by failing to appear.
MP Ahmed Nur Guruji, the chairman of the internal committee said the minister had violated the constitution.
“The minister of Interior was expected to appear in front of the committee this morning, but the minister did not appear or respond to the request. Therefore, it is clear that the minister violated Article 53 section 7 of the Constitution of the Republic of Somaliland.” said Guruuje.
Guruuje added that the committee now refer his matter to the House.
“We are informing the people of Somaliland that the interior committee as per the bylaws of the House of Representatives, we will refer the matter to the House, as to inquire about the country’s security and management issues,” said Guruuje.
It is not the first time that the Minister of the Government of Muse Bihi refused to comply with requests from various Committees of the House.
The internal affairs committee had summoned the minister to answer to queries on the state of security in the country and the role of police in the killing of five demonstrators in August during protests by the opposition demanding presidential elections be held in November.
