The government is now plotting to ruthlessly deal with planned pro-democracy rallies being called by the country’s opposition.
Somalilandreporter.com understands there has been a series of meetings of top security leaders in Hargeisa, the latest having taken place on Wednesday attended by several ministers, security officers and the Mayor and governor of Hargeisa.
According to reports, the meeting focused on how to take decisive action against the officials of the opposition parties who are organizing a legal demonstration.
The Minister of Internal Affairs of Somaliland, Mohamed Kahin Ahmed, who chaired the meeting said in a statement that the government will not accept the protests planned by the opposition against the government.
“Anyone who tries to endanger the security by holding an illegal demonstration, legal action will be taken against them, and whoever organized it will be held responsible,” said the Minister of Internal Affairs of Somaliland.
The national opposition parties Waddani and UCID have been planning to resume countrywide protests to push the government of President Musa Bihi to hold elections in November.
Talks between the opposition and the government to co e to truce collapsed last month and the opposition now says their only option to civil action.
