Opposition leaders meet Finnish envoy over election impasse

Somaliland opposition parties on Thursday held a consultative meeting with the representative of the Finland government a day after mediation talks with the government over the presidential elections plan collapsed.

Finland, which is part of the European countries supporting development projects in Somaliland is concerned about the increasing tension in the country as a result of the government’s unwillingness to commit to holding the presidential elections in November.

Representatives of the two opposition parties UCID and WADDANI briefed the envoy about the general situation in the country, the obstacles in the electoral dispute between the government and the opposition parties.

The opposition was represented by among others UCID party Faysal Ali Warabe and the Waddani presidential candidate Abdirahman Irro.
